- ➤ Downtown Medford is hosting its first Forks & Friends Restaurant Week from today until Oct. 23 to celebrate local dining, community ties, and partnerships with nearby farms with over 20 eateries offering harvest-inspired menus and special events like art walks and live music. Organized by the Downtown Medford Association with help from Travel Medford, the weeklong event will invite locals and visitors to explore Medford’s evolving culinary scene. MedfordAlert
- ➤ Today, The Human Bean hosts its 18th Coffee for a Cure event in Medford where 100% of sales are donated to local breast cancer programs — the funds will help cover costs for testing, treatment support, and patient care for those battling cancer. KOBI-TV
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Officials advise residents to secure trash as bears begin their fall feeding period, known as hyperphagia, when they eat more to prepare for winter. They warn that leaving trash unsecured can attract bears—posing a risk to people and pets. Rogue River Press
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Following statewide earthquake drills, Avista Utilities reminds customers to turn the gas meter valve 90 degrees if they smell gas and then call for help to ensure safety. The company warns that customers must not restore gas themselves – only certified technicians will inspect the system and turn the gas back on when it is safe. KOBI-TV
- ➤ Medford city leaders answered questions on Thursday about the proposed Creekside Quarter development and urged voters to approve funding in November’s special election. The $500 million project will mostly rely on private investments—if Measure 15-238 passes, the plan will include a conference center, hotel, and a minor league baseball stadium that could bring a renamed team to the Rogue Valley. - ➤ On Thursday, October 16th, 15-year-old Kaleb Lahr led efforts to strengthen CPR and AED training in Oregon schools after World Restart a Heart Day highlighted the need for quick emergency action.
