- ➤ Families in Jackson and Josephine counties faced a 51% surge in food-assistance requests as the Salvation Army reported more residents needing help with basic supplies. - ➤ Rogue Regency Inn & Suites, one of Medford’s well-known hotels, was acquired by BHG Hotels and will begin a two-year renovation later next year—while staying open for guests. - ➤ Rogue Valley Symphonic Band held its October concert Sunday at Oakdale Middle School with spooky sounds, classic Halloween songs, and a costume parade that featured costumed band members and kids — board president Shirley Donnelly said the all-volunteer group values music for life across all ages. - ➤ The Eagle Point High School band will host a chili cook-off on November 1 at Eagle Point Grange Hall to raise funds for a trip to Japan. Doors open at 3:00 p.m. and awards are given at 6:00 p.m. — the event will include chili tastings, a silent auction, and a raffle to help cover costs for a 10-day cultural and music workshop trip. - ➤ Rogue Community College held a clothing sale on October 14 at its Riverside Campus in Medford and on October 16 at the Redwood Campus—raising $2,000 from items mostly priced at $1 to fund student scholarships. - ➤ Blue Heron Creek has reconnected with Bear Creek for the first time in 75 years after a three-year project removed a rubble barrier two football fields long and nine feet high—creating cool spring water refuge for young salmon.
