COMMUNITY NEWS

  • ACCESS said that Executive Director Carrie Borgen will retire on January 2 to focus on her health — Interim Co-Executive Directors Kellie Battaglia and Renee Schroyer will lead the group as it searches for a new director.  KOBI-TV
  • Pacific Power reported that weather conditions left many customers without power in parts of southern Oregon and northern California. Outages were highest in Siskiyou county with 1,372 customers affected—1,145 in Josephine, 919 in Klamath, 536 in Jackson and 541 in Coos.  KDRV

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Eagle Point community mourns the loss of 18-year-old Mitch Stubbs who died in a highway crash last weekend when a Ford F-350 broke through a guardrail and rolled into a creek on Highway 140—two other teens were taken to hospital in critical condition.  KOBI-TV

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Jackson County is still counting ballots from Tuesday’s special election and early counts show strong support for Measure 15-238, a proposal that would raise Medford’s lodging tax to fund tourism projects like Creekside Quarter. The project will include a new conference center—part of the city’s 2040 vision—that will bring more business travel and jobs to downtown.  KDRV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Detective Ben Fazio, the most senior Deputy Medical Examiner at the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, was honored on Wednesday for 25 years of service investigating suspicious deaths. Sheriff Nate Sickler praised his integrity, courage — and compassion for the community.  KOBI-TV
  • Jackson County Emergency Management will test its Wireless Emergency Alert system along the I-5 corridor from the California–Oregon border to Exit 14 in Ashland at 2:00 p.m. today to simulate a winter storm and Siskiyou Summit closure, helping verify that alerts reach drivers and nearby residents—phones may display test messages or sound a loud tone.  MedfordAlert
  • The Oregon Department of Forestry invites public comment on its new Western Oregon Forest Management Plan—replacing three regional plans—to update forest management and boost habitat conservation, while balancing timber harvest and recreation. The comment period runs from November 1 through January 31 and public hearings are scheduled in January, with an informational meeting on Jan. 6 from 1–3 p.m.  KOBI-TV

  • The Chieftain girls fell in overtime to the Sisters in a Class 3A/2A/1A first round playoff game at Beck Field—Rogue River's Shelby Hutsell worked hard on offense while Sisters’ Zoey Bafford helped secure the win.  Rogue River Press
  • Mount Ashland has introduced a new Lower Lift Ticket for beginners and intermediate riders that gives access to a learning carpet and key chairlifts, along with weekday rates of $55 for adults and $45 for kids—a 23% cut from last year's prices.
