COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Salvation Army started its annual Angel Tree Christmas Distribution on Friday at a Stevens Road warehouse in Medford, giving gifts to about 703 families (1,800 children) with waitlisted families set to receive gifts Monday.  KOBI-TV
  • ACCESS will host a holiday food and fund drive at Greystone Court starting Sunday through Christmas Eve, inviting community donations of non-perishable foods and cash to support local food pantries. A Santa stop is planned nightly from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. along with free hot chocolate on Sunday.  KOBI-TV

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Mt. Ashland Ski Area announced that a routine inspection found the Windsor Chairlift’s key parts have reached their service life, and officials plan to replace it in 2026 while matching donations (up to $150,000) support the project.  KDRV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Ashland Middle School students volunteered at SoHumane on Thursday, donating nearly $2,000 raised through their Doggy Dollar Drive and making cat toys for animals at the shelter. Students said the event was meaningful (it helped strengthen their connection to the community).  KOBI-TV

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Heavy rain, wind and high water are making road travel difficult in Southern Oregon today—ODOT crews are working to clear debris and warn drivers on closed roads while experts advise checking tire tread for safe driving.  KOBI-TV

HEALTH NEWS

  • Health officials reported that new Oregon data shows maternal pertussis vaccination rates are too low, especially in rural areas. They urge increased efforts to boost vaccinations among mothers to protect newborns.  Rogue River Press
